Our Story

BERG Access & Mobility was founded in 2014 with a simple yet powerful mission: to help people maintain their independence and improve their quality of life through innovative accessibility and mobility solutions. What began as a focused service providing stair lifts and wheelchair lifts has evolved into Eastern Ontario’s premier provider of comprehensive accessibility equipment, mobility devices, and home health care products.

Our journey started when Dawn and Scott, our founders recognized a significant gap in the market. While working in healthcare, they observed that many individuals faced challenges navigating their own homes and communities due to mobility limitations. More concerning was the lack of personalized service and ongoing support for those who had invested in mobility equipment. We envisioned a company that would not only provide quality products but would build lasting relationships with clients through exceptional service and care.

As our reputation for outstanding customer service and technical expertise grew, so did our client base. When clients began asking if we could expand our offerings to include mobility devices and home health care products, we listened. In response, we broadened our product lines and changed our name to BERG Access & Mobility to better reflect our comprehensive approach to accessibility solutions.

Today, we’ve completed over thousands of projects across Eastern Ontario and continue to grow while maintaining our commitment to personalized care and technical excellence.

Dawn Forbes – Co-Owner & Vice President

With over two decades in the healthcare industry, Dawn co-founded BERG Access & Mobility with her husband Scott in 2015. Her extensive experience in long-term care settings provides valuable insights into client needs. Dawn leads the administrative team and is our resident expert on mobility devices, soft goods, and lift-out chairs. Her client-centered approach ensures every customer receives personalized attention.

Scott Forbes – Co-Owner & Manager

Scott co-founded BERG Access & Mobility with his wife Dawn, driven by a mission to address the lack of client-based service in the Kingston area. His vision and leadership have helped the company grow rapidly while maintaining its commitment to exceptional service. Scott oversees business development and strategic partnerships that enhance our ability to serve clients throughout Eastern Ontario.

Joe Young – Lift Specialist

A member of the BERG team since its inception, Joe brings specialized expertise in custom lift projects and accessible renovations. He holds an Elevating Device Mechanic (EDM) certificate for commercial installation and service, and has been certified in sales and installation for numerous product types. Joe’s technical knowledge and problem-solving skills have been instrumental in developing our comprehensive accessibility solutions.

Lisa Bridgeland – Financial Administrator

Lisa joined our team in 2019, bringing many years of office experience and excellent customer service skills. Her meticulous attention to detail keeps our financial operations running smoothly, while her organizational talents ensure all paperwork is managed efficiently. Lisa’s strategic approach to administration supports our sales and service teams in delivering exceptional care to clients throughout the Kingston area.

Technical Team

Our technical team includes certified technicians with specialized training in various accessibility and mobility equipment. Many have been with us since our founding, developing deep expertise in both product knowledge and installation techniques. All technicians are:

  • Fully licensed and certified
  • WSIB certified
  • Continuously trained on new products and installation methods
  • Experienced in both residential and commercial applications

Client Care Specialists

Our front-line team members bring healthcare backgrounds and personal experience with mobility challenges, allowing them to provide informed, empathetic guidance. They work closely with clients to understand needs, coordinate assessments, and ensure satisfaction throughout the process.

In 2019, we moved to our current larger location at 816 John Counter Blvd in Kingston to better serve our growing client base. Our expanded facility features:

  • A dedicated service department with state-of-the-art repair facilities
  • A warehouse stocked with equipment and parts for prompt delivery and service
